The truth behind the artifacts
Greek mythology is full of enchanted objects. Discover what roles they play in Zeus the Mighty.
THE AEGIS
The Aegis was an indestructible shield with a snakeskin texture. Zeus the hamster mistakes a metal tape measure for a reallife Aegis. But at least he’s able to use it to protect himself from a group of dive-bombing bats!
HEKATE’S TORCHES
Hekate was a goddess of witchcraft who carried two torches of never-ending light. Zeus the hamster uses what he thinks is one of Hekate’s torches—it’s actually just a flashlight—when he’s trapped in an unfamiliar, dimly lit part of the pet center.
THE ARGO
Sailed by a group of men known as the Argonauts, the Argo was a ship protected by magic, which helped it avoid many dangers on its journeys. Athena the cat uses the Argo—actually a mobile vacuum cleaner—to ferry her friends back and forth across the Mount Olympus Pet Center.
THE GOLDEN FLEECE
The Golden Fleece was the skin of a winged creature guarded by a dragon that never slept. (One of the Argonauts’ dangerous missions was to retrieve this pelt.) In the book, Zeus believes that he must capture what he thinks is called the Golden Fleas to claim his rightful spot as ruler of the Mount Olympus Pet Center.
