Granola Bar Goodies
Help keep the Earth healthy by ditching single-use plastic items. Make your own granola bars instead of buying plastic-wrapped snacks. Plastic food wrappers are one of the most commonly found items at beach cleanups. Want to keep snacking? Get your guide to plastic-free treats.
Step one
Put oats, rice cereal, sunflower seeds, and cinnamon in a mixing bowl and stir with a spoon.
STEP TWO
Grab a parent and combine the brown sugar and honey in a pot.
STEP THREE
Heat the mixture on low and stir for 2 minutes, or until the mixture is smooth.
STEP FOUR
Mix in oil, salt, and vanilla. Next add the chocolate chips and stir until the chips have completely melted. Then turn off the stove.
STEP FIVE
When the wet mixture in the pot is still warm, pour it into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Stir until the wet and dry ingredients are all combined.
STEP SIX
Place a sheet of wax paper into the glass baking pan so that the paper hangs over the sides of the pan.
STEP SEVEN
Pour the mixture on top of the wax paper in the glass pan.
STEP EIGHT
Use your hands to press the granola firmly into the pan. Wait a few hours for the granola to completely cool. (You can put the pan in the refrigerator to cool it more quickly.)
STEP NINE
When the granola bars are fully cooled, carefully lift the wax paper out of the glass pan. Then ask an adult to help cut the snack into bars or bite-size squares.
STEP TEN
Enjoy!
