American alligators live in rivers, ponds, swamps, marshes, and lagoons in southeastern United States, especially <a href="https://kids.nationalgeographic.com/geography/states/article/florida" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Florida</a> and <a href="https://kids.nationalgeographic.com/geography/states/article/louisiana" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Louisiana</a>. Males can grow to be 15 feet—about half of that is its powerful tail!
