Official Rules

OFFICIAL RULES: 2010 National Geographic Kids Get Caught Reading Sweepstakes: ELIGIBILITY -NO PURCHASE IS NECESSARY. A PURCHASE WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING. MANY WILL ENTER; FEW WILL WIN. This sweepstakes is open only to legal residents of the United States (excluding residents of Puerto Rico) who are between 6 and 14 years old at the time of entry.

Entries are limited to individuals only; commercial enterprises and business entities are not eligible. Employees or contract employees of sponsor, National Geographic Society (the “Sponsor”), Penguin Putnam, Random House Inc., Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing Company, and their affiliates, subsidiaries, and advertising and promotional agencies and their immediate families or persons living in the same household of such individuals, are ineligible. SWEEPSTAKES IS VOID IN PUERTO RICO AND WHERE PROHIBITED BY LAW.

SCHEDULE
The sweepstakes begins on April 15, 2010 and ends on May 31, 2010. Entries must be postmarked by May 31, 2010 and received by June 7, 2010 (one week later).

HOW TO ENTER
To enter, tear out and complete reply card; or go to http://kids.nationalgeographic.com/contests/2010-get-caught-reading to print out and complete an entry form; or use a 3 x 5 card to print your first and last name, complete address, city, state, zip code, daytime telephone number, date of birth, and parent/guardian signature. By their signature, parents/legal guardians consent to their child’s participation and agree to these Official Rules. Put the entry in an envelope, affix first-class postage, and send it to Sponsor at: 2010 NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC KIDS Get Caught Reading-BR, 1145 17th St, NW Washington D.C. 20036 (“Mailing Address”). Limit one entry per person. Subsequent entries will be disqualified. All entries become the property of Sponsor. They will not be returned or acknowledged. Sponsor is not responsible for lost, late, misdirected, mutilated, incomplete, illegible, or postage-due mail. Entries are void if they are in whole or in part illegible, incomplete, damaged, irregular, altered, counterfeit, produced in error, or obtained through fraud or theft.

GRAND PRIZE
Fifty (50) grand prize winners will be randomly selected. Each grand prize consists of the following: Hank Zipzer: #17 A Brand-New Me! (ARV$4.99) provided by Penguin Putman; Savvy (ARV $7.99) provided by Penguin Putman; Eragon (ARV $10.95) provided by Random House Inc.; The Birthday Ball (ARV $16.00) provided by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing Company; Alchemy and Meggy Swann (ARV $16.00) provided by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing Company. Approximate Retail Value ("ARV") of Grand Prize is $55.93. No prize transfer, assignment or substitution by winners permitted. Sponsor reserves the right to substitute prize in the event of unavailability, in which case a prize of equal or greater value will be awarded.

JUDGING
Random selection of the winners will occur on or about July 15, 2010 from among all eligible entries received. The winners will be notified by mail on or about July 20, 2010. Limit one prize per person, family or household. Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received.

REDEMPTION AND VERIFICATION
To redeem the prize, winners must respond within ten (10) days of prize notification. All prize claims are subject to verification and compliance with the official rules. CONDITIONS OF

PARTICIPATION
By participating, participants agree to release, discharge, and hold harmless Sponsor, Penguin Putnam, Random House Inc., Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing Company, and their partners, affiliates, parents, subsidiaries, advertising agencies, agents and their employees, officers, directors, and representatives from any liability, claims, losses, and damages arising out of their participation in the sweepstakes or any sweepstakes-related activities and the acceptance, use, misuse, or possession of any prize received in this sweepstakes.

Participants also agree (a) to be bound by these official rules; and (b) that the decisions of Sponsor are final on all matters relating to the sweepstakes. Winners will be required to sign an affidavit of eligibility/liability release before award of any prize. All federal, state and local taxes, fees and surcharges on prizes are the sole responsibility of the winners. If a prizewinner declines the prize or is unavailable for prize fulfillment, an alternate winner will be selected at random from all remaining eligible entries.

GENERAL INFORMATION WINNERS LIST -For a list of winners after July 31, 2010, send a separate self-addressed, stamped envelope to Sponsor at the Mailing Address (Residents of Vermont need not include return postage).

NOTICE TO INDIVIDUALS: REMOVAL FROM MAILING LIST: To elect to have an individual’s name excluded from all lists used by Sponsor to mail skill contests or sweepstakes, submit a removal request in writing to Sponsor at Mailing Address.
