NO PURCHASE IS NECESSARY AND A PURCHASE WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING.

Sponsor is National Geographic Society, 1145 17th Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20036-4688 (“Sponsor” or “NGS”).


TERM

The Win a Trip to LEGOLAND Contest begins May 22, 2008, and ends July 14, 2008. All Entries must be postmarked by July 14, 2008, and received by July 22, 2008.  Entries become the property of Sponsor and will not be returned or acknowledged.


WHO MAY ENTER

Contest is open only to legal residents of the United States (excluding residents of Puerto Rico) who were entered in grades 2-9 in the 2007-2008 school year.  Employees of Sponsor, The LEGO Group, LEGOLAND® PARKS, and Grand Pacific Palisades Resort and Hotel and each of their affiliates and subsidiaries, and their immediate family members (spouse, parent, child, sibling and their respective spouses, regardless of where they live) or persons living in the same households of such individuals, whether or not related, are not eligible to enter or win a prize.  Entrants must have a parent's or legal guardian's permission to enter.  CONTEST IS VOID IN PUERTO RICO AND WHERE PROHIBITED. 

HOW TO ENTER

To enter, visit http://kids.nationalgeographic.com/contests/Stonehenge,
download and complete an entry form, or a fill out a 3”x5” note card with your name, address, telephone number, e-mail address (if available), your grade during the 2007-2008 school year, and parent’s or legal guardian’s signature. Mail your completed entry form or 3”x5” card, along with your Photograph (described below) to: Stonehenge Contest, National Geographic Kids / RB, P.O. Box 96794, Washington, DC 20090-6794. Entry form must be complete for entry to be valid.

  • Entry must comply with the following requirements (“Entry Requirements”):
  • Build a model of your version of Stonehenge (“Model”).  Then take a photograph of the Model (the “Photograph”).  You must be the photographer. The Model and the Photograph must each be a single work of original material created by the contest entrant. By entering the Contest, entrant represents, acknowledges and warrants that the submitted Model and Photograph are original works created solely by the entrant and that no other party has any right, title, claim or interest in the Model or the Photograph.
  • The Model must be no bigger than 2’ X 2’ X 2’.
  • The Model must be a basic representation of Stonehenge but does not have to be an accurate representation. The Model does not have to be built to scale, have the precise number of stones, or have stones positioned exactly as they appear today. The Model does need to call forth an image of Stonehenge, so that when viewers see the Model they know they are looking at a Model of Stonehenge.
  • The Model may be built out of anything: LEGO brick, toothpicks, craft sticks, clay, etc., or a combination of materials. Be creative by using fun colors and patterns. It is OK to add props to the Model, such as people, cars, animals, dinosaurs, etc., even if those props are not accurate to Stonehenge.
  • Photograph must be submitted in the form of a print between 3”x5” and 8”x10” (taken with film or digital camera).  No electronic, slide or non-print submissions will be accepted.          
  • Keep the Model after the Photograph has been submitted; winning entries may be published in National Geographic Kids magazine or elsewhere.
  • The use of public domain images is prohibited.
  • The content of the Photograph may not include you or anyone else.
  • Modifying, enhancing or altering a third party’s pre-existing work does not qualify as entrant’s original creation.
  • Obscene, provocative, or otherwise objectionable content will not be considered, and such determination is solely at the discretion of Sponsor.
  • The entries will be judged in accordance with the Judging Criteria, as defined below.
  • Limit one entry per person.


CONTEST PRIZES

THE POTENTIAL Winners (AND PARENTS OR LEGAL GUARDIANS) are required to EXECUTE THE FOLLOWING: (1) an affidavit of eligibility and liability release; (2) warranty of ownership and License; (3) PUBLICITY RELEASE; and (4) ANY OTHER AFFIDAVITS AND/OR RELEASES OR ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTS THAT MAY BE REQUIRED BY PRIZE SUPPLIER(S). UNLESS PROHIBITED BY LAW, THE POTENTIAL WINNER MUST SIGN THESE THREE DOCUMENTS no later than 15 days from the date of prize notification IN ORDER FOR SPONSOR TO AWARD THE PRIZE. Noncompliance or return of prize notification as undeliverable MAY result in disqualification and, AT SPONSOR’S DISCRETION, selection of an alternate winner. 

One (1) Grand Prize Winner will be selected. The Grand Prize consists of a trip to LEGOLAND California for a family of four between October 1, 2008, and October 1, 2009 (“Trip”). At least one of Winner’s guests on the Trip must be his/her parent or legal guardian. Trip includes round-trip coach air transportation from the major airport closest to the winner’s hometown to San Diego International Airport, 3 nights at the Grand Pacific Palisades Resort and Hotel (quad occupancy), 4-day admission to LEGOLAND California, rental car for 4 days, and $200 in meal vouchers at LEGOLAND California. If the winner does not have three family members who can take the vacation, he or she may select other guests or friends to accompany his or her family on the vacation; provided, always, that at least one guest is a parent or legal guardian of the winner.  However, the prize is limited to four people.  In addition, any guests that accompany the winner must sign the liability and publicity release described below.  Approximate Retail Value ("ARV") of Grand Prize is $3,700. Tips, taxes, insurance (including travel insurance) and all other expenses associated with acceptance and use of the Grand Prize not stated herein are the sole responsibility of Grand Prize Winner and his/her travel companions. All prize details are at Sponsor’s sole discretion.

  • Retail value of Grand Prize may vary depending on location of Winner’s residence.  Any difference between actual retail value of prize and the approximate retail value will not be awarded.
  • If Grand Prize winner is unable to travel with a parent or legal guardian on dates available for the Trip, then, at Sponsor’s discretion, an alternate Grand Prize Winner may be selected based on the judging criteria below.
  • Grand Prize Winner and his/her travel companions must travel together on the same itinerary. Certain restrictions may apply. Grand Prize Winner and his/her travel companions will be responsible for all necessary travel authorizations and travel insurance. Travel arrangements will be made through LEGO Systems, Inc.  By accepting the Grand Prize, Winner and his/her parent or legal guardian and guests represent that they understand that travel, whether in developed or remote areas and whether by plane, automobile, boat, raft, or other conveyance, or by foot, on land or water, and in the air, contains some inherent element of risk of accident, illness, injury, loss or death, which may be caused by negligence, forces of nature, wild animals or other agencies, known or unknown. Winner and his/her parent or legal guardian and guests represent that they recognize that such risks may be present at any time before, during and after the trip. In order to be considered a Winner and partake of the enjoyment of this Grand Prize trip, potential Winner and his/her parent or legal guardian and guests must be willing to accept the risk, and to confirm their acceptance to such risk in writing at Sponsor’s request.

Ten (10) Second Place Winners will be selected. The Second Place Prize is a LEGO Creator Prize Pack, which will consist of 6 sets: Fierce Creatures, Cargo Copter, Beach House, Stegosaurus, Cool Convertible, and Transport Ferry. ARV of each Second Place Prize is $225.

Twenty (20) Honorable Mention Winners will be selected. The Honorable Mention Prize is a LEGO 50th Anniversary Building Set. ARV of each Honorable Mention Prize is $40.

  • No prize transfer, assignment or substitution by Winners permitted. In the event of unavailability, Sponsor reserves the right to substitute prizes in which case a prize of comparable value, determined in Sponsor’s reasonable discretion, will be awarded.
  • Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received.

JUDGING

  • Contest consists of two (2) rounds of evaluation. The judges will use the same Judging Criteria in Round One and Round Two. The top fifty (50) candidates in Round One will proceed to Round Two. One (1) Grand Prize Winner, Ten (10) Second Prize Winners, and Twenty (20) Honorable Mention Winners will be selected from among the candidates in Round Two.
  • In Round One, a National Geographic staff person with experience in art and knowledge of Stonehenge will evaluate the entries based on the following criteria (“Judging Criteria”)

    1. Creativity 50%
    2. The Model’s basic representation of Stonehenge 20%
    3. Overall organization and quality of Model 20%
    4. Quality of Photograph 10%

  • In Round Two, a panel of National Geographic staff with experience in art and knowledge of Stonehenge, and a panel of LEGO Systems, Inc., artists with experience in modelmaking will evaluate the entries based on the Judging Criteria.
  • Winners will be chosen on or about August 29th, 2008, and notified by mail by September 15, 2008.
  • Decisions of the Sponsor and judges are final and binding.
  • Sponsor reserves the right not to award all prizes in the event an insufficient number of eligible entries meeting the minimum judging criteria are received, as determined by Sponsor and judges in their sole discretion.


ENTRANT LICENSES/RELEASES

Winning entries, the winners’ names, voices, and likenesses may be published by Sponsor, LEGO Systems, Inc., or their designees, licensees or affiliates (the “Authorized Parties”), in magazines, on websites, or in any other medium, and/or in press releases associated with the Contest. By participating, all entrants grant a license in their Model and Photograph, to the Authorized Parties, and acknowledge that the Authorized Parties may reproduce, distribute, display and create derivative works of the Model and/or Photograph, with a name credit, in any media now or hereafter known, without restriction, including commercially using them to fullest extent possible. No Authorized Party will be required to pay any additional consideration or seek any additional approval in connection with such use. 


LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

By participating, entrants (and their parents or legal guardians) agree to release, discharge and hold harmless National Geographic Society and LEGO Systems, Inc.,and each of their respective partners, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising agencies, agents and their employees, officers, directors, and representatives from any claims, losses, and damages arising out of their participation in this Contest or any Contest-related activities and the acceptance and use, misuse, or possession of any prize awarded hereunder.


CONDITIONS

This Contest is VOID IN PUERTO RICO AND WHERE PROHIBITED. This Contest is subject to federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Certain restrictions may apply. Sponsor is not responsible for late, lost, stolen, mutilated, incomplete, illegible, misdirected, or postage-due mail. Entries void if the Sponsor determines the entry to not be an original, or if the entries are illegible, incomplete, damaged, irregular, altered, counterfeit, produced in error or obtained through fraud or theft.

Participants also agree (a) to be bound by these Official Rules; (b) that the decisions of the judges are final on all matters relating to the Contest; and (c) if he/she wins that Sponsor may use the winning Photograph and/or Model and each winner’s name, photograph, likeness, and/or voice in any publicity or advertising relating to the Contest or future promotions without compensation or approval (except in Tennessee and where prohibited by law). All federal, state and local taxes, fees and surcharges on prizes are the sole responsibility of the prize winners. In the event that the selected winner(s) of any prize are/is ineligible or refuses the prize, the prize will be forfeited and Sponsor, in its sole discretion, may choose whether to award the prize to another winner.

NOTICE TO INDIVIDUALS: REMOVAL FROM MAILING LIST: Any individual (or other duly authorized person) may elect to exclude the name and address of that individual from all lists used by Sponsor to mail skill contests or sweepstakes. To elect to have an individual’s name excluded from all such lists, submit a removal request in writing to: Stonehenge Contest, National Geographic Kids / RB, 1145 17th St., NW, Washington, DC  20036. This notification system may be used to prohibit mailing of all skill contests or sweepstakes by Sponsor to such individual.
