Visiting the Abbey of Rievaulx

This week-end I went to Yorkshire with my family. On our way we visited the ruins of an abbey called the Abbey of Rievaulx.

It was first built in 1132 and so now it is about 1,000 years old. It was destroyed by Henry VIII (the 8th) in the 16th century.

Cistercian monks lived there and they didn't eat meat or talk at meal times!  It is situated in Yorkshire about 200 miles away from London. We spent quite a long time at the abbey because Nick, my stepdad, took lots of pictures.

It took us a good four hours to get to Yorkshire. On the way we also stopped at Designer Outlet, which is a big shopping center. We spent ages there and we had a pizza. Then we went to my stepdad's sister's house in Scarborough on the Yorkshire coast. We had a great week-end and here are more pictures of Rievaulx.
