Visit to Petra-Day One

I went to Petra!!!!
The day before yesterday my family and I and a group of our friends went down to Petra for a two-day trip.

Photo: Ayat at SiqWe left early in the morning and met at a specific place and off we all went all the cars behind each other. It took about two hours to get there but it wasn't that bad. We arrived at the hotel we were all excited  we went into the lobby and I said hi to my friends who are: Suraya, Laila, Tala and Zinya. After we all got settled we headed out to explore Petra.

Since Petra is one of the new Seven Wonders of the World, it is a World Heritage Site so  people are trying to protect it and no cars are allowed to take you down into Petra. Since it is a long walk you can ether take a carriage ride or a donkey, or horse,  or walk on foot. We decided to go on foot.

Petra lies in the South of Jordan, and was built by The Nabateans around 300 B.C. The abateans invented Arabic.

To get to the main site, you have to walk through The Siq.

I had no idea that this was there.

It is a long narrow passageway through the mountains, that leads you to The Treasury of Petra.

It is very high on either side so that Nabatean guards could stand on top so if any enemies were to attack they could defend the Kingdom with bows and arrows. They even managed to stop the Romans from invading Petra.

The Siq is very beautiful, the colours of the stone are brown, shaded with dark brown, yellow and purple, and some dark orange. When you go though the long Siq you reach the Treasury of Petra.

It was AMAZING!! It was huge and beautiful and I couldn't believe that the Nabataeans built it without technology. It is carved out of the mountain and it is pink. It was colossal!!

After looking at the Treasury we headed out to explore more of Petra. We came across a staircase that led to the top of a mountain..a hike! The staircase is carved out of the rock. We decided to go up. We hiked to the top, climbing 600 hundred stairs it was an amazing experience and what a hike!

When we got to the top the view was so high I could see all of Petra below me, and you could see the Siq. The top of the mountain has the Point of Sacrifice, where the Nabateans used to sacrifice humans!
