Mondays

In Jordan our weekends are Fridays and Saturdays, so Sunday is the first day of the week, but I know that in most places around the world, things get started on a Monday. Today, I am going to tell you how my regular day goes at school on a Monday. Here it is!!

I wake up at 6:45 a.m., get dressed, eat breakfast (which is usually peanut butter and jam on toast), then my father takes me and my brothers to school. We have to drop my elder brother Rakan to school first since he is in a different school that starts earlier. However, Hamza and I go to school together and go up the stairs to get to the playground.

In our school, before starting the day all the grades gather up and sing the national anthem then the students are led to their classrooms... (boring!!).

On Monday my lessons begin like this: a double Arabic lesson, which on Mondays is Arabic writing.

Photo: Ayat and Miss LinaMy Arabic teachers are Miss Afnan and Miss Lina. (Here I am with Miss Lina.) Math is next, my math teacher is Miss Nelly. At the moment we're learning all about geometry.

We then we have a 20 minute recess in the playground, (first break).

After that we have a double P.E. lesson. The whole grade goes down to the sports complex and we are put in to groups with different teachers. I am with a teacher named Miss Ruba and my group are taking the unit "health and fitness" (we switch units every few weeks). We run around the big track on the field and do sit ups, it really is a work out.

After our double P.E. we have a longer break that is about 30 minutes (second break). On Mondays during this break we can choose to go to "tabblah" practice. A tabblah is sort of like a bongo drum which you play with your hands.

Photo: The proper way to hold a tabblah drumAt the moment we, (the Junior School) are rehearsing for the Annual Winter Music concert when at least 100 junior school students get on stage and perform with their tabblahs. It's always a HUGE hit.

Photo: Ayat's teacher Mr. AhmadMy (Arabic) music teacher is Mr. Ahmad. After break, we have the best lesson--DRAMA AND MUSIC! When I say drama and music I mean that one part of the class goes to drama and the other goes to music and then the next Monday we switch.

In drama (with Mr Saad--the funniest teacher at school),
we take a skill and then we act it out. It is lots of fun.

In music (with our English music teacher, Miss Marina)  we sing lovely songs in English. IT IS REALLY GREAT!!

Then after that lovely lesson comes another one of my favourites,  and that is English! In English we take many different things like: spelling, grammar, science and writing! My English (and class) teachers are Miss Suha and Miss Eliane.

Other lessons I have are religious studies, social studies, geography and history, but my all time favourites are drama and English.

At going home time we're always very tired. Sometimes we have after-school activities and may have to stay late, otherwise we leave at the normal time--2:30 p.m.
