Last week I met John van de Ruit, the author of Spud, during the launch of his latest book, Spud - Learning to Fly at this cool mall called Melrose Arch.

At 6:45 a woman also called Samantha from the famous radio station 94.7 Highveld Stereo, announced that the author would start signing books. Luckily my information skills teacher, Mrs. Murdoch, was quite high up in the queue so she let us all cut in!
So I got my wickedly funny
book and I had a number for a competition raffle—my number was 232.
Finally it was my turn and it was really him and he signed my name, "to
Sam."

We had to leave early, because my sister threw up—she'd been suffering from gastroenteritis—and long after we left they drew out the numbers and my number was called. I'd won an iPod shuffle, argh just my luck!
The book is the fourth in the Spud series which follow the adventures of a boy named Spud who doesn't look a day older than 11. He goes to a boarding school in South Africa, which means he lives there and he gets into all sorts of escapades. I started reading Spud- Learning to Fly and I haven't stopped laughing. It's so funny!!!
