House Hunting

For the past two months we have been looking at houses, apartments, and townhouses to move into. Unfortunately we haven't found anything yet, but we saw a couple of super awesome houses, but they got rented the next day.

Actually at the moment I have two houses because my mom and my dad don't live together. I live mostly with my mom, but get to stay over at my dad's every other weekend and one week day a week.

Anyway, looking for somewhere to live in Johannesburg means looking for something super-safe and secure because crime is a big problem over here. So we look for things like 24-hour security and electric fencing. Just to be on the safe side.

We've lived in homes with really cool-sounding names. When I was born in Hong Kong, my parents lived in an apartment building in a neighborhood called Happy Valley. It sounds just like a fairy tale!!!

When my sister was born, we lived in a complex called Cloudlands, also in Hong Kong, right on The Peak. And most of the time we were literally in the clouds! Or at least during the early morning when there would be a lot of mist!

At the moment we live in a building that dates back from the 1930s, and has a colonial style of architecture. A lot of the other buildings in our neighborhood are more modern-looking.

But I guess the coolest name for a house that I've ever lived in was Chatsworth, on a street called Queen Mary Avenue in Mauritius. It was a huge property, and there were lots of rooms and a big, big garden.

I learned that the original Chatsworth is a beautiful, grand, stately home in England that's been around for centuries. And its gardens are famous! I'd love to visit the real Chatsworth one day!!

So you have a big yard to be in right? It sounds pretty fun over there. What kind of crimes are there?

You have a lot of opportunities a lot of other kids don't have. You're very lucky!!!

Sam, I know what you mean. I live in Brazil and we have a lot of crimes here too. We have to be locked in our houses while the thieves and bandids are free. Children can't be alone on streets.

did you now that joburg is the city of gold as some people say
