Netball

On Thursday we went to Kingsmead, which is another girls' school, to play a netball match. Netball is kind of like basketball, but you don't dribble the ball and you can't move when you have the ball. But you still need to shoot it into the net to score and make a goal.

By the way I played basketball last year in school and loved it so I was disappointed when the school took it out of the sports schedule. And I had a good chance of being captain of the team!

Anyway yass (that's a South African expression)! These Kingsmead girls were tall (and it's a good thing it wasn't St. Mary's, because they are so big and fast!!!), I thought we didn't have a chance.

When we were about to play we had to run around the court seven times to warm up, quite tiring I know! Then we had to get into our positions. When the whistle blows the coach throws the ball high and the first centre who catches it can throw it to any of her teammates.

Photo: Netball team on the courtIt was half time we had a pep talk (the time we tell the players what's wrong) so what I had to do is get free and shoot when I had the chance.

Photo: Netball team in actionWhen the game finished everyone was so tired and the score was, we lost 0-3, but we played well. But to my surprise I saw my sister in the next door court (she was wing defence, and they won 4-3). After that we went to get an ice lolly and potato chips and then we went home.

Well Done Teammates!!!

Just to let you know - the letters on our pennies mean:

C is Centre
WD is Wing Defence
WA is Wing Attack
GD is Goal Defence
GA is Goal Attack
GK is Goal Keeper
GS is Goal Shooter

Thanks again for all your comments and questions.  It's so great to hear from you all.
