We eat mostly rice, beans, eggs and corn tortillas. We make our tortillas by hand. I do love fried chicken the most and that is what we eat on special occasions. My favorite restaurant is Pollo Campero, which serves really delicious fried chicken! I go to Huehuetenango three or four times a year and I love to eat at Pollo Campero.Usually, in the morning before school I have cornflakes and eggs for breakfast. Some days we also have meat.
For lunch we usually have soup, rice, and greens. Other days we'll have chicken, rice, and greens. (In the picture at left, my mom is cooking some delicious chicken and tortillas over a wood fire.)
For dinner, we don't eat a large meal. Lunch is really our big meal of the day. We just have coffee and bread, or sometimes a rice drink with chocolate called arroz con chocolate for dinner. If you want to try this drink you can make it yourself. Here is a recipe for the rice with chocolate drink, arroz con chocolate!
Ingredients: water, rice, cinnamon sticks, Guatemalan chocolate bars, sugar, and a little salt.
In a pot, boil some water with a cinnamon stick. Add the some rice to the pot, but not too much. Or it can get too thick. Let the rice heat in the water and thicken it, but make sure it is liquid enough to drink!. Add several chunks of chocolate, a sprinkle of salt and a spoonful of sugar. When the chocolate has melted, pour the mixture into a cup and enjoy!

Hi Kelli
I enjoyed reading your blog. My mom is from Guatemala, I have visited Guatemala three times and I love it. Like you I also love Pollo Campero. I think is the best fried chicken. We have a Pollo Campero here in miami, but it doesnot compare to the Pollo Campero in Guatemala. Keep us the writing through your blog, I learn a lot about my mother's beautiful country.
