Kalani

Hi All!

My name is Kalani. Kalani is a Hawaiian word meaning 'of the skies'.

Photo: Boy in sunglassesI live in an apartment in a suburb called Fitzroy in Melbourne, which is right down at the bottom of Australia.  (From my apartment, I can see the city and sometimes the hot air balloons that take people for a ride early in the morning).

Photo: BalloonsI am in grade three (nearly grade four) at school. I am nine years old (nearly ten). My dad teaches music at my school. I play piano and am about to start learning trumpet.
I like to draw, watch movies, go to cool places, and eat. I like ice cream.

There are three people in my family mum, dad and me (not including grandparents, cousin, aunties, uncles, and everyone else).  My mum makes websites for mobile phones and is an artist, and my dad is a music teacher and musician.

A few months ago I created a character. I call him Freddy. He speaks in a very weird accent. He is also very crazy. My friend Ben created a man called Fishman. He loves to talk to fish.

I like to draw stick figures doing different stuff. One of my main things is to draw using special pens on art canvases. The theme of a lot of my drawings is cowboys versus miniman (minimen are the stick figures). It's always a major scene from a battle, but it's always funny. I also like to create comics with my friends or on my own.  I am creating one for you - it's about Zich and Zoch (my two aliens I like to do comics about).

Image: Comic Zich and Zoch Part 1What I like about Melbourne is it has great places like Luna Park, cool parks like Edinburgh Gardens, great swimming pools. There is lots of weird and cool art in the streets.

Photo: Art work of cell phone that says, ThinkI have recently been seeing tiny sculptures on the street of mobile phones and remote controls saying different stuff. The phone said think, and the remote said fear.

There is an awesome zoo in Melbourne with animals like Kangaroos, Koalas, pigs, jumbo pigs, and jumbo jets (ok just kidding about the jumbo stuff).

Melbourne has a cool river flowing through it called The Yarra which means 'ever flowing' in the Aboriginal language. Other people think it means the upside down river because it's very brown.

Stay tuned for more adventures from Kalani (and Freddie)...
