Festivals, Art & Cool Stuff

Recently there have been a lot of festivals in Melbourne, like the one near my house I went to today called The Spanish Festival. The Spanish Festival has lots of food stalls and music in the street  - I got some tacos. This weekend there was also the Big West Fest in a suburb of Melbourne called Footscray. My dad did a gig there with one of his bands. There was lots of art - like this big I-Stop motion (animation) of a massive pinball game where the people were the balls.

I think there are lots of festivals in Melbourne because Melbourne is made up of lots of people from lots of different countries all over the world. For example my mum's dad (Poppy) came from Italy and my dad's great grandparents came from Scotland.

Melbourne has lots of cool alleyways where people do art (graffiti and other stuff).

Photo: Artist's chalk drawing of a faceThere are also cafes and shops in the alleyways. I did this thing called En Route (kind of a moving art show and also like a secret agent mission). With En Route they give you an iPod  and you go around the city and they keep sending you messages in different ways.

Photo: Kalani on Melbourne streetOne way is texting on your mobile phone or giving you secret envelopes with clues or codes in them. You have to play 13 tracks (on the iPod) at different times and places (like in these alleyways where there were millions of cool little things to see).

Photo: Kalani's chalk messageOne of my favourite bits was we had to write on this brick wall with chalk what we wished someone had said to us. I wrote that "Chickens are actually mutants in disguise plotting to take over the world" ( they are not really but that would be funny if they were).

They gave you $2 to spend anyway you want during En Route--my mum hid hers for another day, Dad gave his to a busker and I kept mine for later.

The roof of the place (called the Forum) looked like it was actually the night sky and the place looked like it was a Roman Colosseum - I liked it - it was cool.

Great blog, Kalani. You are very cool.

Word!

I love tacos too! My dad does gigs also, ecept they are DJ gigs! The U.S.A has a lot of different cultures to. And by alleyways do you mean alleys? Because here alleys don't have any stores.... And graffiti! We have that too! The En Route thing sounds cool.... And do you mean CW Stonekeg won the AIR award for best R&B record?
