Rules for Small Groups (fewer than 50 people)
RULES FOR SMALL GROUPS (FEWER THAN 50 PARTICIPANTS)
If you a participating by yourself or with fewer than 50 people, these are the rules you need to follow.
IMPORTANT: All jumping jacks must be done between 3 p.m. ET October 11, 2011, and 3 p.m. ET October 12, 2011. (Times and dates are subject to change; check for updates online. kids.nationalgeographic.com/lets-jump/)
BEFORE THE EVENT
--Make sure you have:
• One Independent Witness* to confirm the number of participants and that all rules were followed (download the required fill-in-the-blank Witness Statement).
• One Timekeeper* with a stopwatch to time the one minute of jumping jacks (download the required fill-in-the-blank Timekeeper Statement).
• Invite the press! See press tips and you can download a fill-in-the-blank press release (Word document) or pdf download to send to local media.
* Independent witness and timekeeper must be 18 years old or older and should not have any affiliation with the location, host organization, or participants.
DURING THE EVENT
-- All jumping jacks must be done between 3 p.m. ET October 11, 2011, and 3 p.m. ET October 12, 2011. (Times and dates are subject to change; check for updates online. kids.nationalgeographic.com/lets-jump/)
--Each person must do jumping jacks for one full minute, nonstop. Those who don't cannot be counted.
--If your group is holding multiple events during the 24 hours, each participant may jump only once.
--Each participant must be counted in one of the following ways:
• Grid-like distribution of participants: Organizers arrange participants in rows or squares that each contain a certain number of people and are counted to obtain a final total (best for small groups).
• Logbook (not recommended for groups of 100 or more): Participants print and sign their names; Independent Witness must countersign the completed logbook.
• Clickers: two people with clickers at the entrance
• Ticket stubs: For attempts with fewer than 1,000 participants only, participants may be counted using ticket stubs collected at the entrance.
• Turnstiles: Counters on each turnstile record the number of people passing into the attempt area.

AFTER THE EVENT
--Gather the following documentation:

• Online, newspaper, and TV news clippings. Invite the press and use our sample press release (Word document) or pdf document (to send before the event)
