Seeing the "Marine Big Five"

I'm in South Africa now. When we arrived in Cape Town, we went to our friend Richard and his little girl Georga's house. They showed us all around where they live. We went to a place called World of Birds that had so many cool birds and monkeys. There had one monkey that was the smallest monkey in the world and we got to see it with their tiny little baby. It was very nice having somebody local to show us around Cape Town.

After a few days of relaxing and having Richard and Georga show us around, our friends from home arrived. It feels great to have four other kids for me and Tyler to hang out and play with. We're so excited to have them here!

Together with our friends Parker, Hailey, Owen and Tess, we explored Cape Town and saw lots of cool things. One day we visited a penguin colony. Yes, they have penguins in Africa called, you guessed it, African Penguins! On another day, we went to the top of Table Mountain. It's a flat mountain with views of the whole city and ocean below. Cape Town is known for Table Mountain and when the clouds are covering it, which happens a lot, they say that it has a tablecloth on it.

Before our friends came, we went to Grootbos for a day and went whale watching. We saw humpback and bottlenose dolphins, cape fur seals, penguins, a great white shark and southern right whales ... what they call the "marine big five."  We saw six mother whales and their babies, which are called calves. At one point, a baby calf rolled over the mom, which we got a really good view of.

Now we're at Grootbos again with our friends and we're having a great time. We went into a special cage and saw great white sharks. The water was so cold that I didn't stay in very long. That was ok though since the water was so clear.  I was able to lookout from the top deck of the boat to see the sharks below. We saw five different sharks altogether. They were between seven and nine feet long. When I saw the sharks, I was so amazed by how big they were. Great white sharks are huge!

We also went to an aquarium. Look at me "swimming" with the fish.

It was great being able to join up with you at the Lodge, but I am sorry that your other friends had to miss out on seeing you and all those wonderful animals we were lucky enough to see - and you got your Wild Dogs! Must be Johns lucky head "rub".
