Yeah — We Made It Cross Country!

Hello everybody. I was just in Seattle, which is one of my Dad's favorite places. It is the home of the Space Needle. The Space Needle is a cool, needle-shaped building that has a room at the top that you can look out of to see the city and the surrounding Puget SounPhoto: Nutella pizzad. Being in Seattle also means that we have now officially traveled across the country from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean! That also means I've spent over 150 hours in the car and have driven more than 7,500 miles since July 2nd.

The first night in Seattle we went to a great place called Via Tribunali, which is a restaurant with really good pizza, but that wasn't the best part. We had Nutella (hazelnut-based sweet spread) pizza for dessert and it was the best! Another highlight of our trip was when we got to see our friends, Simon and Theo, who we met at the dude ranch in Wyoming. We all went to a Mariners baseball game together.

We stayed at a bed and breakfast that doubles as a lavender farm. Since we were guests, we got to pick as much lavender as we wanted (my Mom was thrilled). The beaches there had lots of sea glass and since we collect sea glass, it was really fun looking for it. We were especially excited to find lots of blue and purple pieces, which are pretty rare. There was a lot of driftwood on the beach we went to, so we made little log cabins. See Stefan's log cabin.

One really fun thing to do on Orcas Island is go whale watching. When we went, we found a pod (or family) of orca whales. We also went kayaking. We had a really cool guide named Dave who was telling us all about sea stars, kelp and the Madrona tree. He let us eat the kelp right out of the ocean!

From Washington, we pack up to head to Oregon.

We were there a couple years ago!! In 2006 our family rode our bikes around that whole area - including Orcas Island. It's beautiful!!

I'm looking forward to reading more of your blog entries and seeing what kinds of things you are learning. Our boys are learning TONS on our bike trip through the Americas and I'm sure you are learning just as much.

Enjoy your adventure!

Hi Tyler,

Nicole, Ben and I just got caught up on all you and Stefan's blogs and we are jealous. Nicole and I loved seeing the Orcas video -- she would have LOVED to go on that trip! The Nutella pizza looked yummy. We also loved watching the Hawaiian fire dancer. Tell your dad his videos are getting better and better!
