Exploring the Pacific Northwest

Hello, it is me Stefan! This week, I was in the Pacific Northwest. In Seattle, we went to a Mariners game (baseball). We went with our friends Simon and Theo, who we met at the dude ranch. The Mariners are not too good this year and lost the game 10 to 1 to the first place team, the Tampa Bay Rays, but it was still fun. We also went to the Experience Music Project/Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame, where I got to play with an electric guitar machine and learned to play the drums..

When we went to the San Juan Islands, we stayed on Orcas Island, which had a lavender farm, sheep and apple trees we climbed. I loved cutting the lavender. It smelled really nice and I gave a batch to my Mom.

While we were on Orcas Island, we went on a whale-watching trip and saw orca whales. It was cool when we saw them "spy-hopping," which is when they pop their head out of the water to see what is going on (check out the video in Tyler's post). There was a two day-old baby in the pod, but it was hard to see because all of the adults were swimming around it to protect it. I was able to see it for a few seconds.

A splash skirt is a thing that goes over your seat so the really cold water doesn't get on you. I was in a two-person kayak with my Dad. I learned that the most important thing to do is hold the paddle evenly. Also, both people should paddle on the same side of the kayak at the same time. We paddled around the islands and saw giant sea kelp and some sea stars. I also saw a sea lion doing flips in the water.

I also made a log cabin out of a Madrona tree. Take a look!

Hi Stefan!

I am SOOOO AMAZED at your journey so far! I love reading your blog. It looks like you are having an adventure of a lifetime! I am so proud of the work you and Tyler are doing with your blogs and I can not wait to share them in the classroom this fall! We will be following you around the world!

I see that you are heading to Oregon! I bet you are glad you aren't in a covered wagon like the ones you learned about this year in class! :-)

Miss You!!!!

Hi Stefan!

My name is Mozart and we are on a trip around the world too! I was 5 years old when we started and now we are going on our third year of travel, so I will be eight like you in September!

I had my 6 birthday in Paris, my 7 in Saltzburg and soon my 8th at the original legoland in Denmark! Will you or your brother have a birthday on the road?

Did you lose any teeth yet? I lost 6 teeth while traveling in 4 countries! That is fun too because the tooth ferry always finds me, but the money is often different. I have one lose now and wonder where it will come out.

I see you are enjoying your travels and it just gets more and more cool!

I liked your video! We saw dolphins in Portugal and I was going to swim with them, but we have to go back when I am eight.

I love Harry Potter and we went to Hogwarts! I am reading The Order of the Phoenix. What are you reading?

I am in Sweden now and we just took an overnight Safari at Europe's largest zoo where I fed a zebra by hand just after waking up in the morning. I can not wait until we go to Africa again.

Have fun on your trip!!
