Hello people! I just went to South Dakota. The first animal I saw was a mountain goat. My Dad didn't believe me at first, but then we turned around and there they were! We saw baby goats with their mommies and one big goat that was in a cave along the cliff. I also saw lots of rabbits and got very close to them. One of the rabbits I saw was only a foot away from me. We saw a really big herd of buffalo too. Buffalo are also known as bison. They are huge and they can weigh up to 2,000 pounds.
When I was at Badlands National Park, my Mom and I heard a rattlesnake in the
tall grasses. We're so glad we didn't see it! I also got to walk on the buttes (hills with steep sides and a small flat top) when we were in the Badlands.
It was so hot I felt like I was going to die, but I did not. I also saw
prairie dogs. They are so cute, but we were warned that they have a
nasty disease, so we made sure not to get too close to them. And guess what? I became a junior
ranger
during the park visit.

I
went to Wind Cave National Park, which was so cool. Wind
Cave is the fourth longest cave in the world. We were 200 feet below the
ground in the cave. When the ranger turned out all the lights, it was
scary. You couldn't even see your hand in front of your face. After the
tour, we saw a group of people getting ready to go exploring in the
cave. They had on knee pads and helmets with flashlights on them so
they could crawl through dark passages. I would like to do that when I
grow up.
We then went to an abandoned coal mine, which was also
really cool. My Dad and I had a great time looking for rocks. We
found crystals and mica, which looks like layers of shiny silver paper
all stuck together. I also got to go fishing at Legion Lake in Custer
State Park. I caught lots of fish, so I'm very happy.
Bye bye everyone and remember, I'm very happy!
